The IIHF has confirmed the transfer of the 2021 World Cup matches from Minsk.
The International Ice Hockey Federation said the decision was made on the basis of safety issues beyond the IIHF's control.
The IIHF Council, according to the regulations, used the opportunity to withdraw the World Cup from the host country if there are grounds for concern about the safety and free movement of players, officials, fans and the media.
As a result, the IIHF considered that it is currently impossible to ensure the safety of teams, spectators and officials during the World Cup in Belarus.
The new venue for the tournament will be determined at a later date.
Let us remind that Latvia is another organizer of the championship. World Cup 2021 was supposed to be held in Minsk and Riga from May 21 to June 6.
The IIHF will review Latvia's status and also assess the possibility of hosting the World Cup in one country to facilitate compliance with the COVID-19 security protocol.
The decision to postpone the 2021 World Cup matches from Belarus was made against the background of the political situation in Belarus after the presidential elections.
